The Top 100 Current NBA Players

So, how well did the Mavs do against the league's best???

Zach Lowe, who writes for the blog “The Point Forward” over at SI.com, recently posted his Top 100 players in the NBA. These lists are completely subjective, but I found two things really interesting about the list.

First, there is only one Dallas Maverick in the Top 30 (Dirk is #4). This fact isn’t very surprising. No one would say that the strength of the Mavericks is its collection of superstars. Dirk is far and away the best player in the team’s history and the current roster doesn’t have any other current elite players. What is a little surprising, though, is just how far down the list the rest of the players are. We are talking about the defending world champions, right? Here’s where other Mavs rank on the list: #35 Chander; #55 Terry; #58 Kidd; #62 Marion; and #63 Butler. That’s pretty far down there.

Second, it’s interesting that of the top 12 players on the list, the Dallas Mavericks defeated 7 of those players’ teams on its way to the title. When you take Dirk out of that list, the Mavs beat 63% of the top 12 players’ teams this past post-season. You can’s say that the Mavericks had an easy path to the title. They took down some of the best players and teams and are very deserving of the title “World Champions.”

Those are just a couple thoughts I have during this NBA Lockout desert we are in. What are your impressions of the list?
